clary had always been a painter. as a kid, she used to look up at the stars at night and paint them on her arms and wrists and thighs. her mom often caught her awake in the early hours of the morning, painting the night sky on her skin. as an adult, clary still stayed up all night to paint, but on paper instead of skin.

izzy had always had a fascination for makeup. she liked how it could transform her face entirely, if she wanted, or just accentuate her favorite features. she liked to collect makeup, and she loved the rush of getting a new product. she loved the peacefulness of being alone in her room and doing her makeup, and she adored the intimacy of painting the faces of her loved ones.

their canvas of choice may have been different, but the passion for art was the same.
